Alternatives in Motion

ORGANIZATION
Founded in July 1984, Alternatives in Motion, formerly known as Gulf Coast Placement Agency, Inc., is an independent, non-profit corporation licensed by the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services to provide comprehensive child placing services to Christian families and individuals regardless of ethnicity, age, marital status, or any other special condition or circumstance.

TEXAS WIDE SERVICES
While located in Houston, we offer state wide services on a 24 hour basis. Our goal is to help our clients in their time of need, regardless of their location.

MATERNITY CLIENT
Services to maternity clients and young parents unable to continue parenting are offered at no charge.  These services include, but are not limited to, prenatal care, respite housing, educational and employment assistance, psychological/social counseling – both group and individual.

FOSTER CARE
Foster care is available at no charge for minor children whose parents need time to explore their alternatives to premature parenting.

STAFF
The staff consists of experienced, qualified individuals who have a personal interest in providing services to birth parents and adoptive parents because the staff is made up of both adoptive parents and birth families who have been touched by adoption in our homes and in our hearts. We've " been there, done that!"

HISTORY
Since its inception in 1984, the number of persons provided services has increased dramatically.  The agency is averaging between 75 to 100 requests for help each month.  Each day demonstrates the need for 24 hour services as more and more young people face the crisis of premature parenting.

Starting with two placements in 1984, to date we have placed over 1100 children into adoptive homes, thus securing their future as well as offering their biological parents the opportunity to select an alternative to premature parenting.

The agency received its tax exempt status effective March 1985.
